Our Approach:
The Lighthouse
Practice Framework
At Lighthouse Child and Family Services, we embrace a holistic, child-centred approach through our unique "Lighthouse Practice Framework." This methodology is grounded in evidence-based practices, emphasising the emotional, social, and developmental needs of children. Our multidisciplinary team collaborates to provide comprehensive support, fostering a nurturing environment where children and families can grow and thrive. The Lighthouse Practice Framework represents our unwavering commitment to excellence and empathy in child and family care.

Family & Child Centred
Our family and child-centred approach is a theory that focuses on active and meaningful participation in decisions by children and their families. It recognizes the importance of families as a unit and advocates for the involvement of children in decision-making processes that affect them.
Outcomes Oriented
Our teams are outcome-oriented. We believe that it's not enough to simply help children and families; we have to help them achieve their goals, and progress them toward their dreams and aspirations. Plans are developed to support each child and family in accordance with the QLD OOHC Outcomes Framework.
Strengths Based
The strengths-based theory focuses on what children and families, can do well, rather than what they can't do. The goal of this principal is to help children and families identify their own strengths so that they can use them to build resilience and overcome challenges.
Trauma & Attachment Informed
Children who have experienced trauma may exhibit a variety of symptoms that can interfere with their ability to function in daily life. Our trauma-informed approach is based on attachment theory, where children are supported in their ability to develop secure attachments, building a foundation for healthy emotional development later in life.
Emotionally Intelligent Focused
We believe that helping children and families recognise, understand and manage their emotions and the emotions of others are crucial to improving their lives and relationships, as it is one of the most important factors in determining whether a person will be successful in life
Relationships & Connections Based
We believe that relationships, connections, and community are the building blocks of human health and well-being. We help families and children develop stronger relationships and build essential connections with themselves and others within the context of their community.
Lighthouse Cultural Principles
We appreciate the unique approaches needed to respond to the cultural needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families. Our principles support workers when responding and supporting First Nations, children and families.

The Hope & Healing Framework
Children and young people living in residential care are safe, are connected to friends, family, community and culture, and are supported towards realising their hopes, dreams and full potential.
